PM Shehbaz Signs Peace Charter at Davos with Trump

A high-level ceremony was held on Thursday in This Thursday Devos, the Netherlands. This ceremony was chaired by US President Mr. Donald Trump. In this ceremony, Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Mr. Shahbaz Sharif, has signed the charter of the “Board of Peace”.
Pakistan formally accepted this invitation from President Trump and joined the initiative a day ago. The purpose of the formation of this Board of Peace is to be a forum to address Israel’s war on Gaza, though its charter does not limit the body’s mandate to the occupied Palestinian territory alone.
The ceremony started with the address of the US President, Mr. Donald Trump. Post address, Heads of States and Governments came forward, and they have signed the charter. On the occasion, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Jared Kushner, son-in-law of President Trump, and Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff also shared their views in the event.

US President Mr. Donald Trump has referred to the signatories as US friends. He also stated that many countries are interested in signing the charter. Please note that the invitation was sent recently, i.e. couple of days back. Those leaders who were present in Davos have signed the charter during the same meeting.
Donald Trump warmly welcomed the leaders and referred to them as truly honored guests. He also emphasized on Hammas to defuse the arms and weapons under the ceasefire agreement or face severe consequences. He also talked about the length of Gaza during his speech. He repeated the US commitment to ensuring that Gaza will be demilitarized, properly governed, and rebuilt. He also stated that the Board of Peace’s scope may be extended to other countries as well. Notably, the Board of Peace would be working with the coordination of the United Nations, and this partnership is very unique for the world and a hope for the regions and countries that are in a state of war.
He recalled that during the first phase of the ceasefire plan, attempts were made to retain the peace in Gaza and deliver philanthropic aid, while also highlighting the release of Israeli prisoners of war.

The US president believes that this initiative has marked the foundation of a new phase for the Middle East and expressed self-confidence that it could help end decades of fighting and suffering in the area and beyond.
“This is the greatest board ever built,” Trump, who is the chairman of the board, told reporters, including AF,P on Wednesday at the World Economic Forum in the Swiss ski resort.
“Yeah, I have some provocative people on it, but these are people who get the job done, these are people who have impressive inspiration.”
Most of the people think that the launch of the board came against the backdrop of Donald Trump’s frustration at having failed to win the Nobel Peace Prize, despite his disputed claim to have ended eight conflicts.

Key US partners, including France and Britain,n have expressed doubt, with the UK saying Thursday that they would not attend the ceremony.
The members on stage largely held close ties to Trump, including Hungary’s Viktor Orban and Argentina’s Javier Milei, or wished to show their commitment to the US president.
Officials from Bahrain, Bulgaria, Indonesia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Pakistan, Morocco, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Paraguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Mongolia also signed the document with Trump.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that he will join, but was not at the ceremony. He is facing an International Criminal Court arrest warrant over the war in Gaza.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated during the address in the ceremony that the board’s focus was “fundamental and foremost on making sure that this peace deal in Gaza becomes lasting.”
Trump, however, said Hamas will be neutralized under the next phase of the Gaza negotiating period accord, or it will be the “end of them.”
Trump to meet Zelensky
The presence of Putin has initiated particular concern among US allies, but especially in Ukraine, as it seeks an end to Moscow’s nearly four-year-old annexation.
Trump will also be meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Davos after the “Board of Peace” ceremony for discussion of a ceasefire in Ukraine — the major peace deal that remains to avoid him.
Trump’s special representative Steve Witkoff, who is due to travel to Moscow to meet Putin later Thursday, said in Davos that talks to end the war had made huge progress and were down to one issue.
Witkoff also updated that he, along with the US leader’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, would not stay in Moscow overnight and would fly straight to Abu Dhabi for “military to military” talks.
