Home » Pakistan has decided to boycott match against India during T20 World Cup

Pakistan will not participate in the match scheduled against India during the upcoming T20 World Cup. Government of Pakistan has made this announcement.


Before announcement, Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board Mr. Mohsin Naqvi has met with Prime Minster Mr. Shahbaz Sharif then he had made an announcement.
Please note that Pakistan will participate in World Cup but will not play the match against India scheduled on February 15.
The Government of Islamic Republic of Pakistan has clearly instructed to Pakistan cricket board to ensure the team participation in upcoming edition of mega event of ICC T-20 World cup with exclusion of playing match against India in the same event. The match is scheduled on February 15, 2026.
Pakistan has taken this decision to show the solidarity with neighboring country Bangladesh. As they have been expelled from Mega event by ICC due to their demand of a change in the venue due to the security threats to their team in India.
Pakistan is included in Group A along with arch rival India, Namibia, Netherland and USA. Please note that USA had an upset victory against Pakistan in T20 World Cup 2024. Pakistan will play all his matches in Sri Lanka which is a co-host along with India.
Pakistan matches are scheduled on following dates:

7 February, Netherland opener of the tournament.
10 Feb vs USA
18 Feb Namibia


Pakistan will lose the two points from their game against India if they boycott the fixture.
The ICC’s Playing Conditions determine that Pakistan’s net run rate will be hit by the boycotting team, but India’s will remain unaffected. Clause 16.10.7 states that in the event of a forfeit,

“the net run rate of the boycotting team shall be impacted in that the full 20 overs of the defaulting team’s innings in such boycott match shall be taken into account in calculating the average runs per over of the boycotting team over the course of the relevant portion of the competition.”
