Pakistan, Malaysia agree to boost intelligence sharing to fight terrorism, drug smuggling 

President Zardari has stressed over the need of a strong tie of Pakistan and Malysia relationship and collaboration in Law enforcement and security. : Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has had detailed talks with his Malaysian counterpart Saifuddin Nasution
Pakistan and Malaysia has agreed upon to form a joint working group which will work for the promotion of two sided ties. This happened on Saturday when the visiting Malaysian Minister for Home Affairs Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail called on Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and held detailed discussion with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Islamabad.
The decision for setting up a Joint Working Group was taken at delegation-level discussion was held between both country’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his Malaysian counterpart Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail at the office of Ministry of Interior in Islamabad.
Both Naqvi and Saifuddin has decided to build intelligence-sharing more efficiently and effectively in order to fight terrorism, drug trafficking, illegal migration and cybercrimes.
It was also decided that a high level delegation would be visiting Malaysia very soon. It was also part of discussion that both countries would also be collaborated to train the coastguards.
It was also agreed that cooperation would be increased between the National Police Academy and the Royal Malaysian Police College.
Speaking on the event, Naqvi further said that Pakistan wanted to benefit from the expertise of Malaysian coastguards.
He said that Malaysia was a fastest growing Muslim country.
He further expressed his confidence that his Malaysian counterpart’s visit would demonstrate to be a milestone in further cementing relationships between the two countries.
Naqvi said that Malaysia was the most wanted traveler destination for Pakistanis.
He has been optimist that by increasing Pakistan’s work quota, more and more Pakistanis would be able to visit Malaysia through legal means.
Meeting with President
President Asif Ali Zardari called for further solidifying Pakistan-Malaysia cooperation in law enforcement, counterterrorism, narcotics control and fighting human trafficking and migrant smuggling.
The president said this during his meeting with Malaysia’s Minister for Home Affairs, Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail, at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad on Saturday which was also attended by Malaysian Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, President Secretariat Media Wing said in a press release.
Welcoming the Malaysian Minister and his delegation, the president said Pakistan attaches great significance to its close and brotherly relations with Malaysia, rooted in shared culture, faith, mutual respect and strong people-to-people ties.
The president has also appreciated the positive development in consolidation of institutional cooperation, mostly in internal security, migration and legal and judicial matters.


He said ongoing and going forward coordination between the relevant institutions of both the countries would help facilitate their peoples and address their issues of mutual concern.
Royal Malaysia Police and Deputy Commissioner General Rehabilitation, Malaysian Prison Department Hafidz Othman, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, Ibrahim Darus, Director of Special Branch, also accompanied the visiting minister, among others.
Matters relating to increasing joint trade also came under discussion.
The president stressed the necessity to explore larger market access in Malaysia for Pakistani goods that were in demand there, including rice, poultry, potatoes, wheat and animal feed.
The visiting Minister informed the president that 2026 would be marked the 69th year of ambassadorial relations between Pakistan and Malaysia, which were established in 1957 following Malaysia’s independence.
He also informed that 14 flights per week presently connect various cities of Pakistan with Malaysia and that efforts are being made to increase the number of flights among the cities of Pakistan and Malaysia. The president articulated assurance that the visit would contribute for firming institutional ties and further deep dive the longstanding and multifaceted relationship between Pakistan and Malaysia.
