The Pakistan Meteorological Department has released an alert for upcoming extreme heatwave during the day time when temperature will likely to be increased form 4°C to 7°C above normal.
As per the official of the Metrological department, Balochistan, Sindh, and central/southern Punjab will face the very extreme heat and mercury will likely to reach a grueling 47°C to 50°C between June 7, 2026, and June 12, 2026.
The department warned that temperatures in southern Punjab, Balochistan, and Sindh could rise as high as 48° C during the period. Most plain areas will be expected to experience an extremely hot and dry environment during daytime hours.
Authorities have advised the public to avoid excessive contact with direct sunlight, particularly during the intensely heated part of the day, i.e., from 11 am to 5 pm.
Populations have also been advised to take precautionary measures, wear light color dress, have light food, avoid spicy items, and take more liquid intake to keep their bodies ready to protect themselves from heat-related illnesses.
The Metrological department particularly called on elderly people, children, and individuals with existing health conditions to take extra care.
People have been advised to increase water intake, stay hydrated, and avoid activities that could lead to dehydration.
To minimize the risk of heatstroke, citizens have also been urged to cover their heads when going outdoors and avoid direct sunlight between 11 am and 5 pm.
Special advice for Farmers as they have to plan agricultural activities in line with the expected weather circumstances to minimize probable losses and protect crops and livestock from extreme temperatures.
In the meantime, officials also warned that electricity demand could increase substantially due to the prolonged hot weather spell.
In Karachi, hot and humid conditions are expected to persist, adding to discomfort levels although temperatures remaining lower than those forecast for the interior parts of the country.
